Khor Virap is an ancient Armenian monastery located near Mount Ararat. In clear weather, the territory of the monastery offers a wonderful view of the biblical Mount Ararat with wonderful nature. Gregory the Illuminator was initially imprisoned here for 13 years. Saint Gregory subsequently became the king's religious mentor, and they led the proselytizing activity in the country. The village of Areni has multifaceted historical and cultural monuments of high value. The territory of the settlement mainly lies in the widened part of the Arpa river valley. Viticulture and winemaking are one of the main directions of development of the community, due to which there are various wine factories.
